Mount Kailash, (6714m/ 22027ft) high peak is situated to the north of the Himalaya in Tibet. It is the perfect mountain with splendid beauty, with 4 great faces. It is the spiritual center for four great religions: Buddhism, Hinduism, the Jain religion and the pre-Buddhist animistic religion - Bonpo. For the Hindus Mount Kailash is the earthly manifestation of Mt. Meru, their spiritual centre of the universe, described as a fantastic 'world pillar' 84,000 miles high, around which all else revolves, its roots in the lowest hell and its summit kissing the heaven. On the top live their most revered God, Shiva, and his consort Parvati. For the Jains (an Indian religious group), Kailash is the site where their first diviner achieved enlightenment. For the older, more ancient religion of Bon, it is the site where its founder Shanrab is said to have descended from heaven.
Kailash is surrounded by two great lakes; Manasarovar, borne out the minds (Manas) of Bramha. It is the highest fresh water lake in the world. Sacred Lake Manasarovar is round like Sun signifying solar force and inner consciousness (Prajnam) leading to higher Atmic awareness. The water of the Manas is pure and Turquoise blue. It is always calm. A bath in the holy waters of Manas is said to wash away the sins of many Janmas (lives) leading to spiritual path ultimately leading to Eternity. The second lake Rakshas; Rakas or Ravan Tal, is crescent Moon shaped signifying lunar force and influences the lower desires i.e. demonic impulse. The waters of Rawan Lake are brownish and it is often rough. Pilgrims normally avoid taking bath in its waters.
According to the Hindus Mythology, Lord Shiva spends his most of the time on the top of the holy Mount Kailash, practicing Yogic austerities, joy and love with his divine consort Parbati (Mother of Mythology). The Lake Mansarovar and the holy Mount Kailash are the SOUL of all AUM followers in the world.
"Conventional wisdom says a single circuit of Mt. Kailash wipes out the sins of a lifetime, 108 Parikramas guarantees enlightenment. A ritual bath in the sacred Mansarovar Lake delivers pilgrim to Brahma's paradise and a drop drink of its water relinquishes the sins of hundred of lifetimes."
